Terms of Use
Written to be read. Last updated October 19, 2026.
The Short Version
- My Local Obits™ shows only what funeral homes have already published for the public.
- Read it, share it, link to it. It is here for people paying their respects.
- It is privately owned and copyrighted. Do not copy it, take it apart, or harvest anything from it.
- There is no account and no selling of anyone’s information.
- The funeral home’s own page is always the official record.
1. What This Is
My Local Obits is a daily reading of local obituaries. It lists the name, date of death, age, town and funeral home for recent obituaries, and links each one to the official obituary on the funeral home’s or cremation service’s own website. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
2. Only Public Information
Nothing private is shown here. Every listing comes from an obituary that a funeral home or cremation service has already published openly on its own website, with the family’s approval. My Local Obits does not publish obituary text or photographs, does not accept submissions, and does not hold or reveal any information that is not already public at its source.
3. Ownership
My Local Obits is the property of Director’s Corner, its owner and operator. © 2026 Director’s Corner. All rights reserved.
That covers the name, the logo and mark, the design and layout, the written content, the software, and the way the listings are gathered, selected and arranged. The obituaries themselves remain the work of the families and funeral homes who published them. Nothing in these terms gives you any ownership of, or license to, any part of My Local Obits beyond the personal use described below.
4. What You Are Welcome to Do
- Use My Local Obits for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.
- Share a link to it, or to any page on it, with anyone.
- If you are a funeral home or cremation service, place the My Local Obits badge on your website.
5. What Is Not Allowed
The following are forbidden, without exception and without regard to purpose, unless the owner has given permission in writing beforehand:
- Scraping or harvesting. Collecting, copying or extracting listings or any other data from My Local Obits by any automated means, including scrapers, crawlers, bots and scripts, or by any manual process carried out in bulk.
- Reverse engineering. Decompiling, disassembling, inspecting in order to copy, or otherwise attempting to discover or reproduce the software, its methods or the way it gathers and organizes information.
- Copying the work. Reproducing, imitating, mirroring, framing or republishing My Local Obits, its design or any substantial part of its listings.
- Building on its data. Using anything taken from My Local Obits to create or add to another database, directory, product or service, or to train, test or supply any machine-learning or artificial-intelligence system.
- Reselling. Selling, licensing or otherwise trading in any content or data from My Local Obits.
- Interfering. Getting around any limit or protection, overloading the service, or using it in a way that disrupts it for others.
Ordinary search engines may index the public pages as set out in the site’s robots.txt file. That narrow allowance does not extend to anything listed above.
Access may be blocked without notice for anyone who breaks these terms, and every legal remedy is reserved.
6. Respect for Families
These are the names of people who have died, read by people who cared about them. Use this service to pay your respects, attend a service, send condolences or support a family.
Do not use My Local Obits to solicit, market to, or contact grieving families or anyone named in an obituary; to compile lists of the deceased or their relatives; or for debt collection, identity checks, people-search, fraud or harassment of any kind.
7. Accuracy and the Official Record
Listings are gathered automatically from funeral home websites and can be late, incomplete or mistaken. The funeral home’s own page is the official record: confirm service times and every other detail there. Links lead to websites that My Local Obits does not own or control and is not responsible for.
My Local Obits is offered as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, the owner is not liable for any loss arising from its use or from reliance on a listing.
8. Corrections and Removals
My Local Obits mirrors what the funeral home has published. When a funeral home corrects or removes an obituary on its website, the listing here follows. Families who want a change should ask their funeral home first.
A funeral home or cremation service that does not want its obituaries listed here may ask to be left out, and the request will be honored.
For a correction, a removal, or permission for any use these terms do not allow, write to mylocalobits@directorscorner.app.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Privacy
Short, because there is very little to tell.
What Is Kept
- No account. There is no sign-in, no name and no password.
- Your email address, only if you ask. If you ask for the Email Digest, your address is kept to send it, and only after you confirm it from the email itself. Every email has a link that stops them and deletes the address.
- Names you watch. If you use Name Watch, the names you enter are kept with your choices so new obituaries can be checked for them. Remove a name and it is deleted.
- A random device code. Your browser makes up a random code so the service can remember your choices. It does not identify you. If you link your devices, they share one set of choices; unlinking gives each its own again.
- Your choices. The areas you follow, the funeral homes you have marked, your notification setting and your time zone are stored with that code.
- Your location, only if you ask. If you select the location button, the point you choose to follow is saved as one of your areas. Your location is never tracked in the background.
- Notifications, only if you turn them on. Your browser provides an address that lets notifications reach your device. Turn them off and it is removed.
- Searches stay with you. Your previous searches are kept on your own device, not on the server, and Clear All erases them.
- Visit counts. The public pages use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, such as pages viewed, device type and general location. Your browser’s privacy settings or a tracker blocker can turn it off, and the app works the same either way.
What Is Never Done
- No selling or renting of your information to anyone.
- No profile of you, and no attempt to learn who you are.
The Fine Detail
Like every website, the server keeps routine technical logs, such as the internet address a request came from, for security and troubleshooting. To find the funeral homes near an area you add, the location of that area, and nothing about you, may be sent to a mapping service. Removing an area deletes it from the server. Clearing this site’s data in your browser erases the device code, so the choices stored with it can no longer be connected to your device.
Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use My Local Obits means you accept it.
Each name links to the official obituary on the funeral home’s own website. We list the name, town and date only.
